Lancet sizes and gauges: which lancets fit which device

Owen Mumford Unilet fits most devices. Roche FastClix and Softclix work only with their own devices. LifeScan Delica Plus accepts Delica and Delica Plus lancets. Trividia TRUEplus and MHC EasyTouch claim universal fit.

Owen Mumford's exclusion footnote is corroborated from the other side by the excluded manufacturers themselves. Roche states its FastClix and Softclix lancets can only be used with their matching devices; the Amazon FastClix listing repeats "not compatible with any other lancing devices". Two independent publishers agree on exclusivity for those product lines. Owen Mumford's wording is "work with most capillary blood lancing devices" — it does not say "universal fit". "Universal fit" is Trividia's phrase and MHC's; attributing either company's wording to the other would misquote a compatibility claim. Only Owen Mumford publishes what "most" excludes. TRUEplus and EasyTouch make unqualified universal claims and name no exclusions; the page reports that they name none and does not apply Owen Mumford's exclusion list to their products. Roche states exclusivity for FastClix and Softclix specifically, product by product; nothing supports a company-level rule. LifeScan publishes bidirectional interchange between Delica and Delica Plus lancets and devices, while Owen Mumford's exclusion list names "LifeScan OneTouch Delica" as a device its lancets do not fit. Those statements address different questions — one about LifeScan's own lancets in LifeScan's devices, the other about a third party's lancets in a LifeScan device — and are not in conflict.

Gauge and penetration depth are published per product line, not per brand. Owen Mumford's Unilet Excelite range offers 33G, 30G, 28G, 26G, 23G; Unilet Lite offers 33G, 30G, 28G, 26G. No depth in millimetres and no catalogue numbers are published for the Unilet range. Roche's Accu-Chek FastClix is 30-gauge with beveled cut geometry, 102 lancets pre-loaded into 17 drums (six per drum); Softclix is 28-gauge, 100 lancets, beveled thin-gauge bevel-cut. Neither Roche page publishes a penetration depth, and neither gauge appears in any FDA UDI record — the 30G and 28G figures exist only on accu-chek.com. LifeScan's OneTouch Delica Plus device has 13 depth settings and accepts Extra Fine (33G) and Fine (30G) silicone-coated lancets. The manufacturer's store lists "100 lancets - 33 gauge (extra fine)" at $13.99 and "30 lancets - 30 gauge (fine)" at $10.99 (both seen 2026-08-06), yielding a per-lancet price difference of $0.14 for the 100-count 33G box versus $0.37 for the 30-count 30G box, derived from those two published figures. Owen Mumford's Unistik 3 safety lancets publish five variants with gauge, depth, and a manufacturer's application column: Gentle 30G 1.5mm, Comfort 28G 1.8mm, Normal 23G 1.8mm, Extra 21G 2.0mm, Neonatal and Laboratory 18G 1.8mm. Unistik Touch contact-activation variants: 30G Pink 1.5mm, 28G Purple 1.8mm, 23G Yellow 2.0mm, 21G Orange 2.0mm. Unistik 3 Normal 23G is published at 1.8mm and Unistik Touch 23G at 2.0mm — same gauge, same manufacturer, different published depth. FDA UDI records agree with each page respectively, confirming a real difference between product lines. Trividia TRUEplus offers 28G, 30G, 33G with tri-beveled precision-cut needle tips. No catalogue numbers or box counts are published for TRUEplus.

FDA regulation 21 CFR 878.4850 splits blood lancets into four device types: (a) single-use with integral sharps injury prevention feature (Class II), (b) single-use without that feature (Class II), (c) multiple-use for single patient only (Class II), and (d) multiple-use for multiple patients (Class III, requiring PMA). The four product codes are FMK (single-use with safety feature, Class II), QRK (single-use without safety feature, Class II), QRL (multiple-use single patient, Class II), and QRM (multiple-use multiple patient, Class III). UDI records show Accu-Chek FastClix (all 9 records) under QRL — the registered device is the six-lancet drum. Accu-Chek Softclix lancets are QRK; a separate Coaguchek Softclix sub-line is QRL. OneTouch Delica Plus lancets are QRK (models 02400801 33G 100ct, 02401101 30G 100ct, 02419901 30G 30ct); the Delica Plus lancing device is registered under QRL and QRK. A separate OneTouch Delica Safety line is FMK. The legal manufacturer of every OneTouch lancet record is Asahi Polyslider Company, Limited, not LifeScan. Owen Mumford Unistik has 78 records, all FMK, and is the only brand in this sweep publishing depth to FDA — every record carries both needle gauge and depth in millimeters. No penetration depth appears in any OneTouch, FastClix, or Softclix UDI record; where a depth cell is empty for those products it is an em-dash.

Compatibility is published per product line, and only the manufacturer publishes it. Retail listings are a weaker record of the same facts and sometimes contradict themselves: one Delica Plus listing is titled "33-Gauge" while its own first bullet reads "a 30-gauge fine needle". Used lancets are sharps, named as such in several of the state statutes on disposal at home, and the published counts per container are on sharps container sizes.

McKesson Safety Lancet, Retractable, Pressure-Activated Finger Device, Sterile — catalogue number 16-PASL30G matches FDA UDI record for 30G 1.5mm sterile.

TRUEPLUS LANCETS 30G 100 — its detail-table part number TRTAZI11A is an Amazon-side number, not Trividia's catalogue number (Trividia's 30G/100ct is S1211DB30-100).

Accu-Chek FastClix Diabetes Lancets ... 102 Count — its UPC 365702288102 matches FDA UDI DI 00365702288102, Roche model 05360145001, and accu-chek.com reference M05360145001 — three independent publishers, one part number.

BD Medical Systems 366593 Microtainer Contact-Activated Lancet, 21 Gauge, 1.8 mm Size, Pink — the title states "Professional Use, Rx Only" but carries an ordinary consumer buy box; the 1.8mm figure does not appear in BD's FDA UDI record (gauge only) and is attributed to the listing.

Four further listings were checked and none is linked. Two — a Softclix 100-pack and an EasyTouch Twist 30G — carry no catalogue number, so nothing on this page identifies which product they are. A OneTouch Delica Plus listing contradicts itself between its title and its first bullet, as above. And one titled both "Safety Lancet" and "for Lancing Device" with "Multiple Depth Settings" describes two incompatible device classes at once, so what it is could not be established.
